Hello fellow golfers,
Greetings from the Virgin River motel in Mesquite, NV. I almost couldn’t get the results posted because I left my mouse at home.
President’s Cup results: Mike O’Brien beat Chuck McLaughlin today in the tie-breaker from last week. He then continued playing Dom Dinielle today and beat him. O’Brien will be playing for the championship next week. Ron Carpenter and Ron Laufer had to go to a 19th hole to decide the winner of their match. Carpenter chipped in for a 3 to beat laufer. Carpenter will play O’Brien next week for the championship.
The best golfer of today’s regular tournament was Thomas Tone with the best gross score (75) and the best net score (60). Way to go Thomas, Ron and Mike.
Regards,
Robert Escobedo
The results of the President’s Cups are as follows: Ron Laufer beat Earl Clark; Ron Carpenter beat Bob Escobedo; and Dom Dinielli beat Bob Sebedra. Chuck McLaughlin and Mike O’Brien tied and didn’t know it when they finished the round, so next week they will start out with a tie breaker. Dinielli will be included in their foursome. He will play whoever wins the tie-breaker. Laufer will be playing Carpenter.
The top golfers of today’s regular tournament were Jack Fenelon with a 77 gross score and Gene Charbonneau with a 56 net. Way to go guys.
There will not be a scramble next week due to the President’s Cup. We will have a regular tournament for those not in the Pres. Cup. More of Dick Kohnmann’s photos are posted below the results.

Today’s top golfers from the regular tournament were Ron Laufer with an 81 gross score and Dom Dinielli with a 58 net. Way to go guys.
Regarding the President’s Cup, Rich Guzik couldn’t play today (against Laufer). Rick Karas was the 1st alternate, but didn’t show, so Charbonneau played Laufer. I updated the chart, so hopefully you can open it to view. In case you can’t, today’s winners were Laufer, Clark, Carpenter, Escobedo, Sebedra, Dinielli, McLaughlin and Obrien.
After you click on President’s Cup, click on the rectangle at the lower left hand corner, then click on the “OK” in the box.
The top golfer of today’s tournament at Elkin’s was Mark Gerry. He had the best gross score with an 84 and the best net score with a 62. Way to go Mark.
Happy Friday my fellow golfers. We have lots of info to cover today. First, there will be a general membership meeting on Thursday 5-17-18 immediately after our tournament. The tentative location is Santino’s Pizza, 4231 Telegraph Rd., Ventura. It’s tentative because we’re waiting to hear on the availability of their conference room. Santino’s is located just west of Ventura College. The easiest way to get there is Victoria Ave., then left (west) on Telegraph Rd. towards Ventura College.
Here’s something strange. Remember the old Twilight Zone TV show in which strange reality-defying experiences happened to regular people? Well we had a Twilight Zone moment yesterday during the tournament on the par 3 hole #17. Rich Guzik described it like this. He, Ron Laufer, Fred Rudy and Ross Carpenter, playing as a foursome, tee’d off. Three of the T shots hit the green, which is odd in itself. Ross’ ball was just off the green. He chipped onto the green ending up right next to the cup for a par. Fred putted from 20′ out and sunk his ball for a birdie. Then Rich putted from 15′ out and sunk his ball for another birdie. Then Ron putted from 6′ out and sunk his ball for the third birdie on that hole. He also had the closest-to-the-pin ball for the day. What are the odds of that ever happening again? If you feel like you didn’t have much luck on the course yesterday, it’s because these four guys horded it all on #17.
Wasn’t that a great barbecue last Friday? Richard Kohnman was kind enough to provide the following photos. I’ll post more next week along with photos from the Darrell Downey Tournament.
THE PRESIDENT’S CUP: Jack Fenelon informed me that we had 18 players vying for 16 spots yesterday. Here’s how the scoring went:
Net Score / Golfer(s)
62……. Guzik, Dinielli, Fenelon
63……. Youker, O’Brien
64……. Carpenter, Bonifield
65……. Escobedo
67……. Clark, Rudy, McLaughlin
68……. Sebedra
69……. Kehoe
70……. Wright
71……. Laufer, Escamilla
These are the 16 qualifiers. karas with a 72 and Charbonneau with an 80 are the first and second alternates if someone drops out before the next round. Below is the first round bracket. When I clicked on it, another rectangle-shaped button popped up in the lower left corner of my screen. When I clicked on it, I got a blank Excel grid with a small box. I had to make sure that “sheet 1” was highlighted, then I clicked on “OK” and the bracket came up. I also had to use the small squares or the arrows located on the right and bottom borders to move the grid around in order to see everything. If you can’t figure out how to access the bracket, find a 10 year old. They’re really good at this computer stuff.

When I woke up this morning around 5:30am it was raining. I wasn’t expecting the weather to clear up any time soon so I went back to bed. When I got up a around 7am the skies were clear and the sun was out. Strange weather. We only had 15 golfers show up this morning, so it looks like I wasn’t the only one who went back to bed after seeing the rain.
Don’t forget about the BBQ on the 27th and our away Tournament at Elkins on May 7th. Check last week’s post for more info.
Because of the low turn-out, we didn’t have a closest-to-the-pin or longest-putt award. Instead, Jack Fenelon gave out money to the first four places of both flights. The top golfer this week was Ron Laufer with an 81 gross score. We had a tie for the best net score. Pat Reeves, Ernie Baca and Ron Laufer all scored a 64. Way to go guys.

Robert Escobedo
