LUNCHEON this coming Thursday 5-18-17

Don’t forget about the luncheon immediately after our tournament. It’ll be at the Domino’s Pizza restaurant at the corner of Telephone and Petit (the old Ralph’s shopping center), 9410 Telephone Rd, Ventura. A large pizza runs about $ 7.98 and feeds 2 to 3, so 3 people can share one pizza if they want to. They take about 10 minutes to make one, so you can either order at the counter, or you can phone in your order just before leaving the golf course (805) 658-9911. We will be having the usual raffle and the presentation of committee reports. This would also be an ideal time to bring up questions or concerns.

Robert Escobedo

The top golfers of this week’s regular tournament were Ben Tapia with a gross score of 83 and Larry McCollum with a net score of 60. Way to go guys. In case anyone is wondering why the two Robert Coles and Rich Karas don’t appear in the results, they only played nine holes today.

PRESIDENT’S CUP: The following changes were made to the original line-up. Three golfer weren’t able to play, so three alternates were chosen to take their place. Playing for Jerry Kehoe was Don Walker. Playing for Jerry Workman was John Gonzales and playing for David Escamilla was Fred Rudy.

PRESIDENT’S CUP QUALIFYING, MAY 2017

Here is the list of those golfers who qualified for the President’s Cup. Jack Fenelon emailed it to me on Friday, but I only got around to reading my email today. I don’t have any additional info to give you regarding the list, so if you have any questions, they can be directed to Jack at his email address: jackfenelon@hotmail.com or to Phil Youker, Pres. at philyouker@roadruner.com. The pairings list is in Excel format, so once you click on it, you may have to click on the next thing that pops up until you see the list. Then you’ll have to scroll down the document to see all the info.

Just below the list are some of the photos taken by Dick Kohnmann at our last barbecue. Check them out. I’ll post more every Thursday along with the scores until I get all 40 or so posted. Thanks for the photos Dick, I’m sure everyone appreciates your creative camera work.

Golf Wisdom: “If you are depressed, you are playing in the past. If you are anxious, you are playing in the future. If you are at peace, you are playing in the present.”— Adopted from Lao Tzu, the 6th century BC Chinese philosopher.

Today’s top golfers were Benito Tapia with the best gross score of 78 and Von Williams with the best net score of 63. Way to go guys.

Regarding the pairings for the start of the President’s Cup for next week, Jack Fenelon will be sending me the list soon. Once I get it I will post it here, so check the website in a day or so.

RESULTS FOR 04-27-17

“I’m a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling won’t help me. They’d have to put me in prison, and then I’d talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play.” — Lee Tervino

Don’t forget about the club barbecue taking place tomorrow at the Mountain View Golf Course. Happy hour and the live music start at 5PM with dinner starting at 6PM. It should be a beautiful afternoon and evening. If you haven’t signed up already, come on out and pay at the door. Also, if you have a piece of golf equipment, or a golf-related item that you no longer want collecting dust in your home, you can donate it for inclusion in our raffle. If it’s a nice warm day, I’m going to try to set up the music equipment outside in the patio so as to keep the noise level down inside. Hope to see you all there with your golf “fish” stories.

The top gross-score golfers of today’s tournament were Frank Allison and myself. We both had an 81. I was doubly lucky today in that I had the best net score of 58. I’ve been steadily improving since I purchased a new set of “fitted” clubs from The Bunker golf store. Plus I bought a laser finder too.

Robert Escobedo

RESULT FOR 04-13-17

“Everybody can see that my swing is homegrown. That means everybody has a chance to do it.” — Bubba Watson

Announcements:

I wasn’t able to post Thursday’s results until now (Fri. 3:30 PM) because I didn’t have time this morning.

At Thursday’s Board meeting we passed a resolution which has to do with the prize money that is won during tournament play. Anyone who is not a current member, or any member who has not paid his annual dues by the required deadline, will not be eligible to win prize money.

We will be having a club luncheon on May 18th following our Thursday tournament. It will NOT be held at the Wedgewood. It will be held at Domino’s Pizza, 9410 Telephone Rd. It’s located at the intersection of Telephone Rd. and Petit Ave. in the S/W corner, which is same corner where Ralph’s used to be. No need to pay anyone up front. If you go, you can pay for your own lunch when you get there. I hear they also have a banquet room for our meeting.

Don’t forget about the club barbecue on the 28th of this month. I agreed to play music on that day, but I have to go in for a colonoscopy in the morning, so if for some reason I can’t make it, you’ll know why.

This week’s top golfers were Ron Laufer with the best gross score of 80. Both Ron Laufer and Don Walker tied for the best net score of 63. Way to go guys

RESULTS FOR 04-06-17

I like this quote as it applies to golf. “Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” — Jim Rohn: American entrepreneur, author, and global motivational speaker who mentored such notables as Mark R. Hughes (founder of Herballife), Tony Robbins (Life Coach), and Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup book series).

I thought my knees would be the first thing to go, but it was my wife.

It looks like we only had 20 golfers turn out today for the tournament. Hopefully everyone is staying healthy. Its no fun being “red-tagged” and out-of-service. On another note, Jack Fenelon informed me that George Rose shot his age for the second week in a row. Way to go George. I didn’t know you were 61 years old. Maybe he meant his gross score.

The top golfers of today’s tournament were Smokey Yanez (that would be a cool name for a jazz musician) with a gross score of 83. The top net score was shared by George Rose and Dom Dinielli (61). Way to go guys.

RESULTS FOR 03-30-17

Dear fellow gofers,

Sorry for the delay in getting the scores posted this week. I had a kidney stone attack in the afternoon and was in ER all night. It’s still on-going. If I end up back at the hospital I’m going to take my putter and some balls so I can practice.

Regards,
Robert Escobedo
