RESULTS FOR 04-19-18

When I woke up this morning around 5:30am it was raining. I wasn’t expecting the weather to clear up any time soon so I went back to bed. When I got up a around 7am the skies were clear and the sun was out. Strange weather. We only had 15 golfers show up this morning, so it looks like I wasn’t the only one who went back to bed after seeing the rain.

Don’t forget about the BBQ on the 27th and our away Tournament at Elkins on May 7th. Check last week’s post for more info.

Because of the low turn-out, we didn’t have a closest-to-the-pin or longest-putt award. Instead, Jack Fenelon gave out money to the first four places of both flights. The top golfer this week was Ron Laufer with an 81 gross score. We had a tie for the best net score. Pat Reeves, Ernie Baca and Ron Laufer all scored a 64. Way to go guys.

We have an away-tournament coming up on May 7th at the Elkins Golf Course. The cost is $ 55.00 to play in the tournament, or $ 46.00 if you just want to play without being in the tournament. The first T-time will be at 8am. If you want to play, make your check payable to Ron Laufer, our Away Tournament Chairman.

The President’s Cup is coming up in May, with the qualifying round being played on May 3rd. You must have played in 5 tournaments to be eligible and you must be available to play in all five rounds if you advance that far. The low 16 net scores will qualify. At the end of the tournament, the first place award will be $100.00; Second place will be $50.00; third place will be $30.00 and fourth place will be $25.00.

Don’t forget about our barbecue on April 27th at the Mountain View Golf Course. I had mentioned earlier that I was going to take a break from playing music this time around, but due to popular demand, it looks like I’m back. How can I disappoint my multitude of fans, ha ha?
Happy hour and the music starts at 5pm with dinner beginning at 6pm. Hope to see you all there.

Today’s top golfer was Mark Gerry. He had the best gross score with a 79 (wow!) and the best net score with a 57 (another wow!). Way to go Mark.

Robert Escobedo

“I’ve done all that golfing science can do for your swing, Doc — now I suggest you pray.”

Don’t forget about the Spring barbecue this month on the 27th at the Mountain View Golf Course. Happy hours starts at 5pm with dinner being served at 6pm.

Apparently, based on the scores, lots of golfers had very good rounds today. I wish I could have played, but I had a scheduled photo-shoot this morning for a client. Our top golfers were Rick Karas with the best gross score (79) and John Gonzales with the best net score (57). Holy smokes, we need to check these two for golf-performance-enhancing drugs, ha ha, or don’t let them watch the Golf Channel anymore.

RESULTS FOR 03-15-18

Last night’s weather report called for rain beginning Wednesday afternoon and going non-stop through Friday. For that reason I slept in this morning figuring the tournament would be rained out. I awoke to a clear sunny day. I wish we had goat-weather broadcasts here in Ventura. In some parts of the country, they watch goats on a hill to predict the weather. When the goats go to the top of the hill to graze, it means the weather is going to be fair. When they only go half way up, it means bad weather. When they stay at the bottom, it means a really bad storm is coming. The goats have a better track record than the National Weather Service.

We had a three-way tie for best gross score at today’s tournament. Ron Carpenter, Chris Bartelson and Patrick Reeves all scored an 89. Ron also had the best net score with a 66. Way to go guys.

Next week’s tournament is a scramble. The week after will be a yellow-ball tournament. Also, don’t forget about the Barbecue on April 27th at the Mountain View Golf Course. I won’t be playing music because I’m taking a break.

Robert Escobedo

RESULTS FOR 03-01-18

While doing the golf scores, Jack Fenelon noticed, and brought to my attention, that the course must have been pretty tough Thursday. Almost everyone’s game was off. None of the “A” flight players broke 90.
Ernie Baca was the only one to break 90. Almost half the field was over 100. Then there was hole #3/#12 where every time I putted from the lower edge and didn’t make it in the hole, the ball rolled back down. I’ve never seen anything like that. I also noticed that the ground was extra dry and hard. Maybe that was a factor.

On another note, Phil Youker and Chuck McLaughlin weren’t able to finish the round. Chuck became seriously ill and Phil drove him to the hospital. Last we heard, Chuck was being tended to in ER. Let’s keep him in our prayers. Hopefully he’s OK.

The top golfer of this week’s tournament was Ernie Baca with an 86 gross score and a 66 net. Way to go Ernie. You’ll have to show me your secret.

Robert Escobedo

RESULTS FOR 02-22-18

I was just reading an article about how golf is really popular in South Korea, but the courses are too far from the cities and too expensive. Instead, they play screen golf. Six times more Koreans play screen golf than regular golf and they pay $ 20.00 on the average for 18 holes. There are over 5,000 locations and they even broadcast screen-golf tournaments on TV. They are able to choose from hundreds of actual golf courses such as Pebble Beach. Sensors in the ceiling track distance, direction, and angle as well as backspin speed. The mat that they stand on can incline to simulate hitting the ball on a hill. There’s even a section on the mat that simulates being in a bunker and a section that simulates the rough. Wind is also factored in as the ball flies and they can see the wind speed on the screen before they hit the ball. What I found funny was that when a ball lands in a lake, the screen displays an underwater view of the ball resting on the bottom. Putting is the most difficult part because it’s hard to determine the exact slope or break of a green based on the symbols on the screen. This all sounds interesting, but I think I’ll stick to Saticoy golf.

The top team of today’s scramble was the team of Youker, Kehoe, Karas and Rudy. They had a net score of 54. Way to go guys.

Robert Escobedo

Today’s top golfers were Ron Laufer with the best gross score of 87 and Mike O’Brien with the best net score of 65. Way to go guys.

RESULTS FOR 02-08-18

Here are a couple of photos from this week’s tournament. The first photo is of David Soriano’s ball after he tried to hit the green from the left side of hole #7. Somehow the ball became lodged in a tree. It could have been worse. A rabid squirrel could have said “finders keepers”. On the 2nd photo, Gary Hibner waits for a group of non-club golfers to finish putting on hole #13 while Jack Bonifield and David Soriano look on. We had non-club groups in front of us and behind us.

The top golfer of this week’s tournament was Rich Guzik with a gross score of 81 and a net score of 64. David Rios and John Gonzales don’t appear in the results because they were DQ’d for hitting the wrong balls and not rectifying the error before teeing off on the next hole. Jerry Agdeppa and Bob Sabedra also don’t appear in the results because they haven’t established a handicap. They were still eligible for C/P and L/P awards.

Robert Escobedo
