Also, next week we will be playing a scramble tournament and…don’t forget about our club barbecue at the Mountain View Golf clubhouse on April 29th. Happy hour begins at 5PM. I heard a rumor that we’re going to have some live music during happy hour.

Our top golfers of this week’s tournament were Thomas Tone and Murray Cooper. Thomas had the best gross score with an 81. Murray had the best net score with a 64. Way to go guys.

This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of playing in a foursome with SSMGC members Peter Wright, Chris Bartelson and Jack fenelon at Mountain View Golf Course in Santa Paula. While on the fairway of #16, which is a long par 5, Jack hit his second shot left towards the tree line. After searching high and low over hill and dale for his ball, we finally found it stuck to a tree (see photos). Jack decided to play it “as it lies.” He used his hungry-beaver tree wedge, making sure to get under the ball, to smack it down the fairway; saving a stroke by not taking the drop. It just goes to show, you never know what challenges await us on the course. You can’t practice shots like this short of nailing your ball to a tree. To make things worse, Jack had to use a left-handed stance. Way to go Jack.

The date for our club barbecue is April 29th at Mountain View Golf Course in Santa Paula. Happy hour starts at 5PM. It’s a great location for a barbecue and should be loads of fun. Bring your wife or girlfriend (but not both).

The top golfers of todays tournament were Richard Guzik with an 80 gross score and Larry McCollum and myself with a 68 (tie) net score. Way to go everyone.

SSMGC President, Phil Youker presents a $100.00 check to Murray Cooper for his hole-in-one which he got in last week’s tournament on hole #6 (Click on the photos to enlarge).

This photo was taken during today’s tournament as Chris Bartelson makes his birdie putt on hole #6, one of several birdies that he had today. He finished in 2nd place in the “B” flight.

Our next club luncheon will be held at the Wedgewood on March 10th right after our tournament. Phil Youker is collecting the money for the tasty eats. We also have April 29th as the tentative date for our next barbecue. We’re looking for a new location in which to have it that will be more cost effective. We will keep you apprized as the details become finalized.

Todays top golfers were Richard Guzik with the top gross score of 82 and Larry McCollum with the top net score of 63. Way to go guys.

Holy moly! Murray Cooper got a HOLE-IN-ONE on #15. Better keep on eye on this guy. He might be a retired PGA pro and didn’t tell us.

The world’s worst golfer hit his ball into a monstrous bunker. This thing was a pit.
“What club should I use now?” he wailed to his caddie.

Besides Murray with his hole-in-one, the top golfers of this week’s tournament were Jack Fenelon and Ron Carpenter who tied for the best gross score with an 86. I had the best net score with a 66. Congratulations to all.

It looks like another great golf outing is behind us. It started out pretty cold, but by the time we finished, the sun was out and it turned into a nice So Cal day. With the recent rains, the course should began to sprout new grass, relieving the groundsmen from having to spray-paint the fairways. I’ve noticed that even though the brown grass and the green painted grass are the same, I can hit better off of the prettier grass than I can off of the ugly grass. Go figure.

Two announcements: Next week will be regular stroke play, with the scramble taking place the following week. Also, the Darrell Downey tournament will be held on April 2nd this year. This is a great fund-raiser with the money going for scholarships. We need to have a good turnout to make the event a success, so your participation would be greatly appreciated.
