RESULTS FOR 10-13-16

“We all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon.” — Konrad Adenauer

Our next luncheon at the Wedgewood will be on Thursday Nov 10th immediately after our tournament. We’ve been assured that there will not be a wedding event on that day and we WILL be able to eat indoors, unlike the last time when we were moved to outdoor tables under a blazing summer sun. The cost for the luncheon is $ 10.00 to be paid to Phil Youker. If anyone is interested in serving on the governing board, let us know. We will be holding elections for those positions desired by more than one individual.

At our Board meeting today, it was decided that there will no longer be a “carry-over” of money on the longest-putt and closest-to-the-pin contests. If no one wins one of the contests on a particular day, the winnings will not increase for the following week.

Regarding the Club Championship, I was asked to post the scores from both rounds for the winners, so here they are: Frank Allison: (gross winner) 79 + 84 = 163. Don Mulville: (net winner) 68 + 60 = 128. Murray Cooper: (super-Senior Gross) 89 + 89 = 178.

The top-dog golfers of today’s tournament were Jim Houk with the best gross score of 77 and Fred Rudy with the best net score of 63. Way to go guys!

Robert Escobedeo

Don’t forget about our upcoming barbecue on the 30th at the Mountain View Golf Course. I understand that in addition to about 50 of our regular members, there will also be quite a few past members in attendance. I’d better dust off my guitar and start practicing. Happy hour and music start at 5PM.

RESULTS FOR 09-15-16

On being asked, before his final round, what he had to shoot to win the tournament, Roger Maltbie replied, “The rest of the field”.

Last week I was having a great round, that is, until the last hole where I blew up and shot a 9 on hole #18. Had there been a lake nearby, my clubs would have went for a swim forthwith. It’s finishes like that that make me question my existence in the golf universe. But nonetheless, I was back today to do it again. Why? because of hope. The hope that I’ll do better this time around. That today will be the day I find my authentic swing. A swing that will feel natural, that will hit straight and far and never leave me. A wise man once said, you can last 30 days without food, 3 days without water, 8 minutes without air, but you won’t last 2 seconds without hope.

The top-dog golfers of today’s tournaments were: Frank Allison, Gross Club Champion and best gross score in our regular weekly tournament with a score of 84; Don Mulville, Net Club Champion and also the Net Champ of our regular weekly tournament with a 60; and Murray Cooper, Super Senior Club Champion with a score of 89. Way to go guys. (Note: I’m not that savvy on how last week’s Club Championship scores were incorporated with today’s scores since I didn’t see anything showing the math, so check with your tournament Chairman, Frank Allison, if you have any questions).

On a side note, and this isn’t aimed at any one person or any one group in particular. It’s just a general request. Please do your best to keep the pace of play at a reasonable level. A few ways this can be improved is: 1). If you’re the first person to hole-out, no need to grab the flag. Go on to the next Tee-box and hit. 2). If you’re ready to hit and the person who’s ball is a bit further back isn’t close to being ready, go ahead and hit as long as this can be done safely. 3). On the Tee-box, first come, first hit. No need for honors.

Don’t forget about the barbecue on the 30th.

Regards,
Robert Escobedo

RESULTS FOR 09-08-16

For those of you who weren’t at today’s tournament, or who didn’t get the word, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Bob Charbonneau on Friday September 2nd. I didn’t know him all that well away from the Club, but I enjoyed playing golf with him and he was the one who showed me the ropes regarding the Treasurer’s duties. He was a good man and will sorely be missed.

“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguishes one man from another.” — Ernest Hemingway

Somebody tell Murray Cooper that today would be a good day for him to buy a lottery ticket. He scored an 89 (gross) today on his 89th birthday.

Don’t forget about the Club barbecue on 09-30-16 at the Mountain View Golf Course. The cost is $ 15.00 and happy hour (with live music) starts at 5PM with dinner at six.

Today’s top golfer was Frank Allison with a gross score of 79 and a net score of 63. This pretty much puts him at the top of the leader-board for all categories. Way to go Frank.

Sincerely,

Robert Escobedo

RESULTS FOR 08-25-16

“Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.” — Pat Riley, former Laker’s Head Coach

Golf #39 (USED)

Just a reminder about our up-coming barbecue to be held at the Mountain View Golf Course on Sept 30th. I hope you can all make it. It should be a lot of fun. Phil Youker is collecting the money. The cost is $ 15.00 per person. That’s a pretty good price. Where else can you get a barbecue meal, live music, a raffle and the pleasure of being in the company of a bunch of old geezers telling big-fish golf-stories. Also, don’t forget that the Club Championship Tournament starts on Sept 8th, so bring your “A” game.

On last week’s tournament results, I missed the “WD” on Frank Allison’s score indicating that he had withdraw without finishing, hence the really low score. So a correction is in order. Frank was not the top scorer. It was Patrick Reeves with the top gross score of 83. There was a 3-way tie for the best net score between Von Williams, Don Walker and me. We all had a 65. Like Tiny Tim would say, Way to go every one of us.

Today’s top scramble team was the team of Fenelon, Tapia, Youker and Mulville. They had a gross score of 64 and a net score of 54. Way to go guys.

RESULTS FOR 08-18-16

“You must have long-range goals to keep you from being frustrated by short-range failures.” — Charles Noble

DSCN1338(sm) When I left the house this morning, it was pretty foggy. I wasn’t sure if we’d be able to see our balls at the start of the tournament. Once I got to Saticoy, it wasn’t all that bad. In the above photo, Fred Rudy hits a few practice balls on the driving range into what is left of the fog.

The top golfer of today’s tournament was Frank Allison with the best gross score of 75 and the best net score of 60. Way to go Frank (but don’t even think about playing that good in the Club championship next month or we’ll have to rough you up, maybe break some of your clubs too).

Robert Escobedo
