We had five top golfers this week. Tied for the best gross score were Pat Reeves and Rick karas with an 81. Tied for the best net score of 60 were Von Williams, Murray Cooper, and Gene Charbonneau. Way to go guys.

In the above photo, Von Williams receives his $ 50.00 check from SSMGC President Earl Clark for coming in second in this year’s President’s Cup. The photo was taken today at the start of the regular tournament. The other three winners didn’t play today, so Earl will hold on to their checks until he sees them.
The Club Championship will be held on Sept. 5th and 12th. It will consist of the following divisions:
* Gross Champion
* Net Champion
* Super Seniors
The Super Seniors are eligible to claim the Gross or Net Championship if they play well enough to win any of these two divisions, but only one championship can be claimed by any one golfer. This is a two-round tournament in which a final score will be computed for both rounds. You must have a least 10 rounds of golf in order to play.
Today’s top golfer was Ron Laufer. He had the best gross score with a 79 and the bet net score with a 59. Way to go Ron.

On the day that the passing of Rudy Pena Jr. was announced during one of our tournaments, I must have been absent. I just found out recently. I found some photos that I had taken of him over the years and I’ve posted them below. I also found his obit in the VC Star. For those of you who missed it, one paragraph reads, “Rudy is at peace and we all have to remember that he is watching us and will keep us in line.” Rudy was 74 years old and died 3 weeks before his 74th birthday. He will be missed.
Last week I credited Dick Kohnmann for creating the player’s stats that I posted on the website. That was my mistake. It was actually Peter Wright who put those together and brought copies to Santino’s Pizza for club members to see. Thank you Peter.
Next week, June 27th, we’ll be having a scramble. The top golfers of this week’s tournament were Richard Wibbelman, John O’Neal, and Ernie Baca. The three tied for the best gross score with an 85. The best net score of 64 was posted by Ernie Baca and Bobby Sabedra. Way to go everyone.

Dear fellow golfers,
We will be having a club luncheon next Thursday right after golf at Santino’s Pizza on Telegraph Rd. just west of Ventura College on the north side of the street. Regarding the President’s Cup, Rich Guzik wasn’t able to play Thurs. so the championship round between the two top players was postponed until next week. The 3rd and 4th place finishers were able to play and the winner was Bob Edwards for the 3rd place award. Good job Bob.
The top golfer of the regular tournament was Jack Fenelon with a 79 gross score. He and Fred Rudy tied for the best net score with a 60. Way to go guys.

It looks like Jack Fenelon had a pretty good day today. Not only did he shoot the best gross score of the tournament with a 78, but he also got a hole-in-one on hole #6. His drive on the par 3 hole was with a pitching wedge. The ball landed about four feet short of the pin and bounced into the hole for a one. This was witnessed by Ron Laufer, Von Williams and Bob Sabedra.
The best net score was posted by Rich Guzik with a 57 net. He also advances to the next round of the President’s Cup. Way to go Jack and Rich.
